The University of Iowa search committee for the new vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Carver College of Medicine has selected candidates for on-campus interviews

Two candidates will visit campus during the first week of May to participate in open forums and meet with faculty, staff, students, shared governance and campus leadership.

The selection of two candidates comes after Brooks Jackson, current UI vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Carver College of Medicine, announced on Feb. 17, 2022, that he was going to step down from the role to pursue research. Dr. Jackson remains in the position and will continue until the university finds his replacement.

The UI began its initial national search in March 2022, but it was paused in October 2022. After four candidates were brought to campus and an offer was extended to one, the candidate declined the offer due to family obligations.

“Although it is disappointing to take a pause in our national search, we will use the time to ensure that we are poised to find an exceptional leader for our outstanding health care enterprise,” UI President Barbara Wilson said in a release in October 2022.

The search resumed in December 2022. Ms. Wilson and Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel in December named Matthew Howard, chair and department executive officer of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Edith Parker, dean of the College of Public Health, as co-chairs of the search committee.

While in-person attendance in 2117 Medical Education Research Facility (MERF) is encouraged for the open forums, a Zoom option will be available.
