After nearly four and a half years in Cedar Rapids’ Czech Village, Rodina restaurant has  announced its upcoming closure.

According to a statement published by the restaurant on its Instagram, the business plans to close its doors, at 1507 C St. SW, Cedar Rapids, in November 2023.

“When this project began, the stars aligned and allowed us to bring to fruition our dreams, supported by some epically talented and incredible people that we believe will have an impactful and lasting effect on the Iowa food scene,” the statement reads. “Our world has evolved a great deal in the 4.5 years Rodina was opened. Now, in the momentum of our best year yet, a changing wind is blowing, and it seems stars have shifted.”

This announcement comes on the heels of Rodina’s Samuel Charles being named a semifinalist for the James Beard Awards in the Best Chef Midwest category in January 2023.

Mr. Charles and his wife Phoebe Charles opened Rodina in January 2019, which is also when it won the Corridor Business Journal’s Best New Restaurant award. He is the executive chef and the two serve as general manager owners.

“We thank all of you for your patronage, it has meant the world to us,” the statement reads. “To our Rodina family, your ongoing support and ability to bring our dreams to life made all the difference.”
