The Corridor Business Journal is hiring a reporter and special project manager

The award winning Corridor Business Journal, a bi-weekly business publication in Iowa’s Creative Corridor, seeks an enterprising Reporter and Special Project Manager to cover business news throughout the Corridor’s seven-county area, and to manage a brand-new statewide print project– set to publish in 2025. 

The reporter is responsible for developing and cultivating sources within the region and is expected to produce both daily and enterprise stories. Copy editing, proofreading, photography and multimedia skills are desired. 

The ideal candidate must be flexible, inquisitive, enthusiastic and a strong writer with high production values. The candidate must also be attentive to detail and thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, while also remaining open to coaching and continuous improvement. Must have excellent news judgment, ability to regularly find scoops and cultivate watchdog sources and issues. 

The CBJ is a locally-owned, rapidly-growing media company that offers flexible schedules, competitive pay and benefits, and weekends off. We work hard but with a sense of purpose. Teamwork is expected and given.

Pay: $40,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:

Annual Publication Management: 

  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of a brand-new statewide annual publication, ensuring it aligns with the editorial vision and goals. Collaborate with various teams, including writers, designers, and photographers, to produce high-quality content. 
  • Conduct research, interviews, and analysis to generate compelling and insightful stories and profiles. 

Content Creation: 

  • Contribute to the daily news cycle by creating content for the Corridor Business Journal’s website and print publication. 
  • Curate articles, ensuring they meet editorial standards, are engaging, and appeal to our target audience. 

Other responsibilities: 

  • Other responsibilities, as assigned by the CBJ’s Editor.
