Tentative agreement heads off Teamsters strike against Aramark

Cedar Rapids-based Teamsters Local 238 in Cedar Rapids and Aramark Uniform Services have reached a tentative agreement, heading off a potential strike.

The tentative agreement avoiding a strike between the Teamsters and Aramark was announced Feb. 1 on the union’s Facebook page, indicating that the Teamsters Local 90, 120, 238 and 554 chapters had reached a tentative agreement on the Iowa Routes and Iowa Plant agreements.

More than 180 Teamsters at Aramark Uniform Services said in mid-January they were “poised” to strike” after “seeking a market adjustment that will raise their wages and improve working conditions.”

As recently as Jan. 28, the union had announced on their Facebook page that “Teamsters Local 238 members at Aramark Uniform Services covered by the Iowa Statewide Plant agreement join their brothers and sisters from Teamsters Local 554 and reject the company offer by 96%.”

Teamsters Local 238 business agent and Aramark bargaining unit chair Dave Miller couldn’t be reached for further comment on the agreement, including when union members could meet to ratify the agreement.
