Regents release details on new UI presidential search

The Iowa Board of Regents has released new details on the leaders and composition of the committee charged with searching for University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld’s successor.

The search committee will be co-chaired by Sandy Daack-Hirsch, associate professor and interim executive associate dean of the College of Nursing, and John Keller, dean of the Graduate College. It will include 21 members representing multiple UI constituencies, from students and faculty to a current administration member and one alumnus. A request for proposals to solicit search firms to assist with the process has also been issued.

“As we select membership, we will be sure to include faculty, staff, students, and alumni,” said Mr. Keller, in a release. “They must each have a voice in this process. We will work together to find our next president, and do so in a way that is as open and transparent as possible.”

The members of the search committee will be named on Nov. 10, when the regents’ November docket is released. The co-chairs are working with campus leaders, among the respective groups of constituents, to generate their nominees to serve on the committee.

Mr. Harreld announced his plans to retire on Oct. 1, after five years in the role, and about two and a half years short of his June 2023 contract expiration. He has committed to staying with the university until a new president is hired.
