Jennifer Germaine

Jennifer GermaineAge: 32

Occupation: Attorney, Day Rettig Peiffer, PC

What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishment: I helped develop a full-day conference called the Next Gen Summit to aid in the retention of young professionals in the Corridor.

Who are your local mentors: My parents, brothers and partners at my firm.

What’s the best advice you ever received: Push yourself out of your comfort zone and let go of the things you cannot control.

What would most people be surprised to learn about you: I enjoy working with my hands, whether it be refinishing my hardwood floors, landscaping, painting or fishing.

What do you know now that you wish you had known earlier in your career: Follow the work. You may have expectations for your future but when the work comes, follow it. It will lead you to places you never expected.

How do you ensure a balance between work and your personal life: During my personal time, I frequently do things without my phone or computer present. If my phone and computer are present, it is hard not to check-in. I believe in dedicating myself to the present and respecting others, so if I’m at a lunch, dinner or meeting with someone, you won’t find me checking my phone, email, etc.

What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace: We want to be included and our opinions heard in making our organization successful. If included, we will work even harder. We also love flexibility in the workplace.

If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support: I would support local startup companies, scholarships for universities and skilled trades training, the Alzheimer’s Association and various local nonprofits.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt: A yoga or fitness instructor, or a fashion stylist.
