Ignite ICR begins summer student, intern program

Ignite ICR, a program for college students and interns working in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids (ICR) region, kicked off its three-part summer series on June 8.

With over 450 college interns registered from 45 companies, these events give students the opportunity to meet one another, explore the area’s culture, connect with young professionals, and imagine a future for themselves in ICR.

“Connecting with college interns in our area is a large part of our workforce strategy,” Laura Seyfer, workforce specialist at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, said in a release. “Many of the interns participating in Ignite ICR are not from this region. Showing them the amazing assets our area has to offer, plus meeting other interns in the program, allows these students to picture their lives here after graduation.”

The three-event summer series includes:

  • June 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids
  • June 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Big Grove Brewery and Taproom in Iowa City
  • July 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at various restaurants across Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Marion

Ignite ICR is hosted by the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, Iowa City Area Development Group, and the Marion Economic Development Corporation. If your organization is interested in enrolling its college students in the program, email Lucy Schneekloth at lschneekloth@cedarrapids.org to get them signed up.
