The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) is holding a full-scale emergency exercise Saturday, Sept. 23. The exercise will begin at 9:15 a.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires that all commercial airports conduct a full-scale emergency plan exercise every three years.

The exercise, which will simulate an airplane accident involving multiple injuries, will test the effectiveness and interaction of the airport’s emergency plan with responding mutual aid agencies.

During the training, Airport Rescue Firefighters (ARFF) will be the first responders and will attack a live fire produced to simulate a fully engulfed aircraft. The aircraft firefighting trainer will stage at the north end of Runway 13/31 as part of a mock accident site.

Airport public safety, EMS, and dozens of other mutual aid departments will be participating in the exercise, along with support from Linn County Emergency Management Agency and the City of Cedar Rapids.
