The city of Swisher is gearing up for a brand refresh, courtesy of Greater Iowa City Inc.’s Community Branding Grant, made possible through a partnership with Johnson County.
“We are thrilled to award Swisher this grant,” said Sarah Thompson, director of rural development at Greater Iowa City Inc. “The town’s rich agricultural heritage, combined with its vibrant local businesses and natural beauty, makes it a perfect candidate for a branding initiative. This grant will help Swisher create a brand that not only honors its past but also embraces its future.”
According to a release, the grant’s purpose is to bolster rural communities in creating a cohesive and impactful brand identity. Selected communities receive up to $5,000, with $1,500 earmarked for brand development and up to $3,500 in matching funds for marketing materials.
“This is a pivotal moment for Swisher,” said Nikki Hynek, president of the Swisher Economic Alliance. “With the upcoming Forrest Ridge development bringing over 100 new homes to our area, it’s essential that we establish a brand that honors our history while embracing our future. We are grateful to Greater Iowa City Inc. and Johnson County for this incredible opportunity.”
Swisher’s grant will be used to modernize its branding, reflecting the town’s growth
and potential, particularly with the upcoming housing subdivision and the thriving Cedar Ridge Distillery.
A branding committee led by Ms. Hynek has assembled key community leaders to guide the initiative. Swisher Mayor Julie Persons, along with business owners Sonya LaGrange and Dan Johnson, will collaborate with designer Robyn Hepker of Benson & Hepker Design. The team aims to develop a new logo, brand guide, and marketing materials, potentially including wayfinding signage, public art, and banners.
“Swisher is at a pivotal point in its development,” said Ms. Thompson. “With new homes and businesses on the horizon, it’s essential to establish a brand that unifies the community and attracts new residents and visitors. We look forward to seeing Swisher’s new brand come to life and the positive impact it will have on the community.”
