Best Architectural Firm: Shive-Hattery

2 TIMES ON LIST

Shive-Hattery returns for a second year as Best Architectural Firm, building on the popular support that first carried it to the Best of Hall of Fame as Best Engineering Firm (given to those winning a category 10 or more times).

With seven locations, more than 400 employees and over $60 million in revenues, Shive-Hattery is one of the largest engineering and architectural firms in the state. The company has 15 architects in the Corridor, where they’ve recently been handling commercial designs for projects like Orchard Court Lofts in Iowa City, and MW Properties’ luxury Kingston apartment project in Cedar Rapids.

“I think that our in-house design professionals are all uniquely aligned for a real client-driven culture that is focused on the client’s design needs,” said Doug Bottorf, office director and vice president for Shive’s Iowa City office. “We want to deliver a design that meets whatever need our client has, whether it is operating a business, educating students or delivering municipal services.”

While Shive-Hattery continues to thrive in the Corridor, where it employs about 120, some of the company’s most rapid growth has been in its Chicago/Northeastern Indiana market, where it serves a number of large national clients. The design expertise from that growing office is available throughout the company, he said, and has influenced the company’s design approach to many projects.
