PIP Printing has an ace up its sleeve that sets it apart from the rest, according to General Manager Dan Tiedt, and “it’s that we’ve really transitioned into a marketing company, as opposed to just a printer.”
The Iowa City franchise, owned by Mr. Tiedt’s parents, Dan and Pam, opened in 1980 and has grown into a modern 12,000-square-foot facility and a top 25 center in the PIP Printing network. Mr. Tiedt said focusing on integrated marketing campaigns with measurable results is what put it there.
The full-service operation offers everything from graphic design and printing to mailing services, promotional products, signage and direct marketing. In the last several years, PIP has invested in new equipment, including a flatbed printer and flatbed contour cutter that can cut any type of material to any shape, allowing customers to add dimension and order short-run packaging.
“We deal a lot with marketing campaigns, trade shows, events in general – whatever it takes to help them raise sales and increase awareness of their companies,” Mr. Tiedt said. “A lot of that comes down to finding out what their goals are, what they’re trying to accomplish, and working back from there.”
