West Side Transport driver achieves five million accident-free miles

West Side Transport recently recognized Thornton Dixon, over the road truck driver, for achieving five million accident-free miles, an accomplishment that few men and women in the transportation industry achieve.

To put the achievement in perspective, one would need to circumnavigate the globe over 200 times to complete five million miles. To achieve this accomplishment with no accidents or preventable incidents is truly remarkable. “There are very few drivers in the USA – or anywhere else on the planet – who have accomplished this feat,”  said a Dec. 5 news release.

In recognition of Mr. Dixon’s achievements, West Side Transport will have an award ceremony on Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m. at West Side’s corporate headquarters in Cedar Rapids, where he will be awarded a check for $12,500. In addition, the on-boarding classroom at the new headquarters will be christened the Thornton Dixon Training Center. Earlier this year, Mr. Dixon was also awarded the Iowa Motor Truck Association’s Master Driver of the Year. In Oct. 2013, he was recognized for achieving four million accident-free miles.

Mr. Dixon joined West Side Transport in March 1981, and is looking forward to spending more time at home in Pendleton, South Carolina where he and his wife, Juanetta, enjoy gardening and NASCAR.

West Side Transport would also like to acknowledge and thank all of the men and women who keep America’s freight moving every day in a safe manner. “You are all truly appreciated,” the news release said.
