In collaboration with Kirkwood Community College, UnityPoint Health will host a signing day event for future health care professionals at 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Kirkwood Linn County Regional Center, located at 1770 Boyson Road in Hiawatha.
Special recognition will be given to 28 high school students who have completed necessary training through Kirkwood to begin employment as patient care technicians at UnityPoint Health–St. Luke’s Hospital. The students will be signing offer letters from St. Luke’s to fill open positions on a part-time basis.
Patient care technicians partner with other members of inpatient care teams to perform specific treatment plan tasks. These tasks include checking and recording vital signs, addressing patient safety concerns and communicating with staff nurses and physicians. Qualifications include completion of a nursing assistant course and hands-on training.
