The Wedge Pizzeria, which originally opened in 1999, has announced its return to downtown Iowa City. It officially reopened on Jan. 8, now located at 113 Iowa Avenue.

As stated in a news release from the Wedge, the pizza joint has long been a local favorite, founded by Steve Harding in June 1999. The Wedge has relocated multiple times, including from its original Riverside Drive venue to 521 Hwy 1 West in 2020.

It also operated a downtown location in the Ped Mall from 2008 to 2014. The business was sold to Michael Harris and Regina Miller in 2022, who sought to bring the Wedge back downtown.

“Moving downtown will bring us whole new challenges,” said Mr. Harris, in the release. “But I believe we can grow and become even more a part of the community. We’re thrilled to get to know the students and residents who live and work downtown, and we’re excited to make a home in the heart of Iowa City.”

At the new location, The Wedge will focus on pizza by the slice, catering to the fast-paced downtown atmosphere and offering a quick and affordable option for University of Iowa students and nearby residents. As stated in the release, carry-out and delivery options for Iowa City and Coralville will continue as well.

Customers can still enjoy signature pizza orders like the Nutcracker, Love Supreme, and Red Baron, as well as vegan and gluten-free options that have become a key part of the menu, the release states. Additionally, scratch-made desserts — including cookies, cakes, pies, and cheesecakes — remain part of the offerings.

As The Wedge Pizzeria settles into its new downtown home, it invites longtime fans and new patrons to experience its dedication to fresh, high-quality food.
