Edwards Entertainment Company is expanding The Fun Station Cedar Rapids beyond its walls for the first time, adding swan pedal boats to the property’s pond as part of a multi-year plan to grow outdoor offerings at the family entertainment venue.
The pedal boats, which seat up to five passengers, will operate on the property’s 1.5-acre pond. The attraction is more commonly found at tourist destinations on the East and West coasts, and Edwards Entertainment said it is the first to bring it to the Midwest.
The addition follows last year’s opening of what the company calls Iowa’s Largest Indoor Adventure Park at The Fun Station, which added more than 20 indoor attractions to the Cedar Rapids location.
“Our vision has always been to continue investing in experiences that create lasting family memories,” Nick Edwards, president and CEO of Edwards Entertainment Company, said in a news release. “Last year, we opened Iowa’s Largest Indoor Adventure Park, and we’re just getting started. This is the first step in a much larger vision that will continue to transform The Fun Station into a destination unlike anything else in the region.”
Along with the pedal boats, the pond area will include a new outdoor patio, seating areas and a boardwalk where visitors can feed fish and watch boaters on the water.
Mr. Edwards said the pond will be the site of additional outdoor attractions in the coming years, with the pedal boats representing an early piece of that plan.
“The 1.5-acre pond will become the backdrop for many exciting additions in the years ahead,” Mr. Edwards said. “The swan pedal boats are just a very small part of our overall vision for expanding the outdoor experience. We have some incredible ideas planned, and we’re excited to continue investing in Cedar Rapids and giving families new reasons to visit year after year.”
Construction on the pedal boat attraction is nearing completion, with an opening expected within the next few weeks. The company said it will announce an official opening date on its website, gofunstation.com, and social media channels.
Edwards Entertainment Company, a family-owned business, operates The Fun Station locations in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Eldridge in the Quad Cities.
