UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2026, marking the 15th consecutive year the Cedar Rapids hospital has earned the recognition.
St. Luke’s is among 350 hospitals nationwide — and one of 10 UnityPoint Health hospitals — to receive a performance achievement award from the registry this year. In the Corridor, University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown was also awarded. The award recognizes sustained, high-level performance in the quality of care provided to heart attack patients, based on clinical guidelines set by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

Peter George, MD, UnityPoint Health’s chief medical officer for cardiovascular services, said the award reflects coordination across the full continuum of care.

More than 800,000 Americans experience a heart attack each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked, requiring rapid diagnosis and treatment. Evidence-based care includes timely restoration of blood flow, appropriate medications, smoking cessation counseling and participation in cardiac rehabilitation.
The Chest Pain – MI Registry, run by the American College of Cardiology, helps care teams apply the latest science-based treatment guidelines and establishes a national benchmark for improving quality, safety and outcomes for patients with coronary artery disease.
