The Lodge receives first short term rental permit in Amana

Lace Lodging in Amana, Iowa, has been purchased by Cedar Prairie LLC, a property management company founded by LeAnna Kruckeberg of Iowa City.

The building, dating back to 1855, was originally a prayer meeting hall. It then became a private residence, a lace shop, a book store and eventually four separate living suites. In 2014 one of the suites was converted into a salon and day spa.

Now dubbed The Lodge, the building has been fully updated with three newly furnished short-term living suites available for rent on Airbnb. There is also one long-term living suite available for traveling professionals.

“This is a historically significant property in the heart of the Amana Colonies,” said Ms. Kruckeberg in a news release. “We are proud to invest in this community and look forward to contributing to the town’s economic vitality with tourists, short- and long-term renters patronizing a host of Amana businesses.”

The Amana Colonies Land Use District (ACLUD) recently established an ordinance requiring permits for short term rentals. The new ordinance allows for a maximum of 20 active short term rental permits to be issued within the boundaries of the ACLUD. No more than seven permits may be issued per village. There are seven villages of which Amana is one. At the Sept. 11 convening of the ACLUD, The Lodge was the first short term rental property in Amana to receive one of the seven permits.
