Startup Weekend Iowa City will return this year from July 15-17 at MERGE.
The event promises attendees they will “learn how to think, work and build like a startup in 54 thrilling hours” by working with mentors, investors, co-founders and sponsors, according to a press release.
Organizers of the event are partnering with California State University Channel Islands to study entrepreneurship. Participants who complete several surveys will be randomly selected to receive a $50 digital gift card.
Attendees will pitch their initial ideas during the first night of the event before all ideas are voted on by the group. Top voting-getting teams are then to be announced. Teams work with mentors and develop their ideas until pitching their final presentations during demo day.
Nicole Williams, a former winner of Startup Weekend Iowa City, developed her music education app further in the Builders + Backers program — an early-stage accelerator new to the scene in Iowa City that helps entrepreneurs move their vision out of the idea phase. Ms. Williams is one of the organizers of Startup Weekend this year.
Tickets are on sale for $25 which include six meals.
