Regional biomanufacturing start-ups have just days left to apply for a pitch competition that will put them in front of investors and industry partners in Omaha this fall.
The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance is encouraging biomanufacturing companies in the region to apply for “Biomanufacturing Shark Tank,” a sponsored pitch event hosted by the NSF RuralSTAMINA Biomanufacturing Engine, which serves Iowa and Nebraska. The event will take place September 10 at the North America Bio-Innovation Midwest Meeting in Omaha.
The application window closes soon — start-ups have until midnight Monday, July 27, to submit their materials.
Organizers say the event is open to any start-up that relies on biomanufacturing inputs, develops new biomanufacturing technologies, or uses biomanufacturing processes to create its products. Selected companies will pitch to a panel of investors and industry funders from the bioeconomy sector, then field follow-up questions from the judges — dubbed the “Sharks.”
The pitch format is brief by design: each start-up will get three minutes to present, followed by a two-minute question-and-answer session with the panel. Companies that participate will also receive a table at the venue where they can display products and hold one-on-one meetings with attendees.
Start-ups selected for the event will need to register at a discounted rate of $250 for two participants.
