South Slope Cooperative Communications has acquired $300,000 in USDA Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant (REDL&G) funds for North Liberty’s new Centennial Center.

South Slope and Aureon both contributed $30,000 in matching funds for the Centennial Park project, as stated in a news release from the communications company. These funds will go toward the city’s $3.5 million goal for phase one of the project.

The company has simultaneously established a new Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) with the additional funds. Once the City of North Liberty has repaid the RLF, which has been offered by South Slope at 0% interest, the money will be regranted to projects that create or retain rural jobs within South Slope’s service area, the release states.

The 13,000-square-foot Centennial Center will feature an indoor event center, exterior restrooms, and plaza space. It will also include a catering kitchen and bar area, green room spaces, office space, and a large exterior stage on the south end of the building.

The venue will host public and private events, including business functions, recreational activities, concerts, and other community gatherings. Construction is slated for completion by Fall 2025.

“We are proud to support the Centennial Center project and invest in North Liberty’s growth and community development,” said South Slope CEO Chuck Deisbeck, in the release. “By funding this venue, we are not only enhancing recreational and business opportunities for our community but also contributing to the overall quality of life in the area. South Slope is committed to empowering our communities, and this project aligns with our mission to invest in local development that benefits everyone.”
