Registration for the 34th annual Especially for You (EFY) Race Against Breast Cancer opens Monday, April 1. Race day is Sunday, Oct. 6.

Last year, a record 16,546 people registered for the race, which benefits the Especially for You fund, according to a news release. Proceeds from race registration provide financial assistance for breast care and gynecological cancer services to local individuals in need. The EFY Fund covers breast, ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancer services at participating local medical providers.

Throughout the years, the EFY fund has helped 13,500 individuals access more than 36,700 services, according to the release.

“We’re looking forward to another fantastic race year,” said Jeff Decker, EFY race director, in the release. “This long-standing event has proven to be one that unites our community while supporting those who have battled or are currently battling cancer. We invite everyone to take part as we raise funds for breast and gynecological cancer services.”

Individuals interested in helping to determine the color of this year’s race shirt participated in an online poll to indicate their preference. The winning color was heather lavender.
