A $100,000 promise fund has been made by Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital and was recently presented to the hospital.

According to a news release sent by Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa, the $100,000 commitment will go towards the Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa Pediatric Oncology Nursing Support Fund and the Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa Pediatric Oncology Research Fund.

The primary goal of the Nursing Support Fund is to provide holistic long-term support to the nursing staff by investing in initiatives to improve morale and the overall culture and experience on the pediatric cancer floor, according to the release.

“We are pleased to support Stead Family Children’s Hospital’s efforts to invest in their nursing staff to ultimately enhance the culture and help the hospital recruit and retain great nurses. Most importantly, we want the children and families affected by childhood cancer to get the best possible care,” said Kalvin Grabau Keele, managing partner of Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa, in the release. “This hospital has a tremendous impact on families, and at Northwestern Mutual, we believe in the power of serving the community.”

The Pediatric Oncology Research Fund will help provide the funding pediatric cancer research needs to accelerate new treatment breakthroughs. Together the two funds will help progress toward finding a cure for pediatric cancers and investing in the people that are doing the day in and day out care of patients.

With the support of its employees and financial advisors nationwide, the company has contributed more than $40 million and funded over 500,000 hours of research through the program, according to the release.
