NewBo City Market has announced a series of upcoming specialty guest vendor markets, including the return of its popular Black-Owned Business Market.

“We’ve always had specialty markets, but we’re planning them further in advance to make sure we are aligning them with federal holidays or national months when we can,” wrote Director of Equitable Business Development Matt McGrane in an email to the CBJ. “We want to celebrate diversity and the important contributions of our vendors to the community.”

The schedule for these specialty markets begins April 13 with the Asian-Owned Business Market. Applications are currently being accepted for this and all the upcoming markets:

  • April 13 – Asian-Owned Business Market
  • May 18 – Young Entrepreneurs Market
  • June 15 – Black-Owned Business Market
  • July 6 – LGBT-Owned Business Market
  • Aug. 17 – Hispanic-Owned Business Market
  • Sep. 7 – Person With Disability-Owned Business Market
  • Oct. 12 – American Indigenous Person-Owned Business Market
  • Nov. 9 – Veteran-Owned Business Market
  • Dec. 7 – Young Entrepreneurs Market

According to Mr. McGrane, the best way to apply is to reach out to the NewBo City Market administrative office by calling: (319)200-4050.

Hot foods are not allowed to be sold at these markets, but other types of goods such as arts, crafts, jewelry, body care, eggs, honey, clothing, vintage items, and bakery items are.

“For our specialty markets, we encourage our vendors to find creative ways to celebrate their culture and heritage through their goods,” Mr. McGrane wrote. “The strength of this entire country is its broad range of diversity, and it’s critical that we help minority business owners feel connected and represented.”
