The 2024 Request for Proposal (RFP) from the MBI-WORKS Endowment Board is now open to schools and non-profit programs across Iowa, with a deadline of Sept. 20.

Announced in June, the initiative seeks to support education and workforce development efforts aimed at attracting more Iowans to the commercial construction industry.

Applicants can find the RFP on the MBI website and must submit their proposals by 4 p.m. on the deadline. The selection criteria emphasize innovative approaches to increasing the number of Iowans pursuing careers in commercial construction and raising awareness of the industry’s opportunities.

Over the past five years, the MBI-WORKS Endowment has provided more than $2.9 million in funding for workforce recruitment, including seven projects across the state this year. Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply.

Application process includes:

  • The Master Builders of Iowa website provides access to the RFP.
  • An 11-member committee, composed of both industry and non-industry professionals, reviews and scores the RFPs.
  • Proposals must be submitted by a commercial construction company or a coalition of such companies, in partnership with a 501(c)(3) non-profit or an Iowa-based government entity to be eligible for funding.
  • Grants from the fund are limited to charitable organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or governmental agencies, including public educational institutions. Applications from eligible organizations must also be backed by one or more members of the Master Builders of Iowa.
