The City of Marion is now accepting hotel-motel grant applications from non-profit organizations for any project that increases tourism in Marion.

The grants are funded through the city’s share of taxes collected on overnight stays at Marion hotels and motels.

Approximately $50,000 is expected to be available for the competitive grant program in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, according to a release.

Marion city staff, City Council representatives and council-appointed citizens will review applications, determine recommended funding allocations and make a recommendation to the council for the use of the funds. Projects that increase tourism and result in more overnight hotel stays in Marion will be given priority.

Applications will be accepted online through the city’s website at www.cityofmarion.org/HotelMotel from from April 2 through May 6. Award allocations are expected to be revealed during the June 20 City Council meeting.

Questions about the hotel program can be directed to Marion deputy finance director Brian McKenzie at (319) 743-6353.
