Kirkwood Community College is set to launch its inaugural Jones County Leadership Council meeting on Sept. 4, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at the Kirkwood Jones County Regional Center in Monticello. The gathering is expected to draw Kirkwood President Kristie Fisher, other college officials, local community leaders, and members of the public.
The council’s mission is to convene key stakeholders for a dialogue on how Kirkwood’s resources are being utilized within the community.
The discussion will span a variety of topics, including workforce development, current trends, college statistics, common areas of interests, new opportunities, and the college’s economic impact on Jones County. Kirkwood leaders are particularly keen to hear from attendees about how the college can better address the county’s education, training, and workforce needs.
Lisa Folken, director of the Kirkwood Jones County Regional Center, views the leadership council as a crucial platform for fostering direct, face-to-face conversations about the future of higher education and workforce development in Jones County.
“This is a chance for the people of Jones County to have their voice heard about the education and workforce issues that matter to their communities,” said Ms. Folken. “We’ve invited local business and industry leaders, city and county officials, area educators, donors and many other movers and shakers who can lend their expertise to the discussion. At the same time, we feel it’s crucial to open the meeting to anyone living in Jones County who feels they can contribute. Everyone is welcome to be a part of this amazing opportunity and we’re all very excited.”
The college plans to hold two County Leadership Council meetings per year in the fall and spring.
