Johnson County Social Services, in collaboration with NTS Horizons, has launched a new transportation initiative aimed at addressing a critical gap in local transit services. Dubbed “Trip Connect,” the new service operates in the northern and metro regions of the county.
The pilot program, launched Dec. 11, offers curb-to-curb rides for workers and students in the evening hours – times when traditional public transit options are often limited or unavailable.
Trip Connect operates from 5 p.m. to midnight, Sunday through Friday, offering on-demand or scheduled transit for $2.00 per ride.
Riders can book trips through the newly launched Trip Connect Johnson County app, available for download on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
“Trip Connect is an exciting new option for residents of Johnson County who have limited access to transportation during evening hours,” said Kelly Schneider, mobility coordinator at Johnson County Social Services. “By offering a low-cost, flexible transportation solution, we are helping individuals get to work and school while improving mobility for our community.”
The service is funded by multiple sources, including the Johnson County Board of Supervisors through the American Rescue Plan Act, the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG), the National Center for Mobility Management, the Iowa Department of Transportation, the City of North Liberty, and Kirkwood Community College.
