Johnson County Great Give Day to be held May 1

great give day

The second annual Johnson County Great Give Day, a collective day of advocacy and giving, will be held May 1.

According to a news release, the goal of Johnson County Great Give Day is to empower all Johnson County nonprofit organizations to collectively and individually share their work and the ways they support their communities, and to raise funds for their individual organizations.

A new website, johnsoncountygreatgiveday.org, has been created where nonprofits can sign up to participate and donors can find area nonprofits to support.

Leaders from five area “Nonprofit Champions” are serving as the steering committee for this campaign; The Community Foundation of Johnson County, the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature, the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation, Shelter House, and United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties. They helped to create this campaign and will act as ambassadors on behalf of the effort. Their organizations, and some of the hundreds of nonprofits in Johnson County, will use the days leading up to May 1 to spread the word about Great Give Day.

On the day of the event supporters are encouraged to donate to nonprofits in Johnson County. The funds raised on Great Give Day will highlight the generosity of the community of donors who support the work of these organizations across the county.

Visit johnsoncountygreatgiveday.org for more information, or contact your favorite Johnson County nonprofit to see if they plan to participate.
