Jennifer Borcherding has been named the new executive director of The District: Czech Village and New Bohemia.
Ms. Borcherding assumed her new role Nov. 1. She succeeds Jim Miller, who stepped down in early July for a new role as development director at Horizons: A Family Service Alliance.
In a release, Ms. Borcherding said she is excited to use her skillset, and her ancestry as a fifth generation Cedar Rapids Czech, to help recognize legacies of the past and realize dreams of the future.
She said she is thrilled to be part of the evolution of The District as an Iowan arts, culture, and retail destination, and looks forward to helping The District achieve its goals while also partnering with other organizations and residents to grow shared prosperity, resilient economies, and thriving communities.
“The District is so fortunate to have Jennifer’s experience and leadership at our disposal,” said Jeff Morrow, board president of The District. “Our organization is dedicated to continuing programs that have proven to be successful, as well as innovate new programming and events that will assist business owners and create unique and vibrant experiences for its residents.”
Ms. Borcherding is a 2023 Leadership for Five Seasons graduate. She also serves as District 6 Director for the Iowa Association of School Boards and as District 3 Director for the Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education. She has been in those roles since 2021 and 2017, respectively.
