Iowa County Development set to launch business facade/signage grant

Applications open March 1, close March 31 for 1:1 matching program

Iowa County Community Development (ICCD) is set to launch a facade/signage grant, incentivizing businesses in Iowa County to make exterior building improvements or add or update signage.

“I often get inquiries from business owners asking if funding is available to make small improvements to their exteriors,” ICCD community director Laura Sauser said in a release. “Our board approved this program to nudge business owners to spruce up their facades or add/improve signage.”

The program is supported by reserved funds raised from the annual ICCD golf tournament and accrued interest money.

The grant application window opens on March 1 and closes on March 31. A 1:1 match is required, with funds available up to a maximum of $5,000. Work must be completed by the end of the calendar year.

“We’re excited to be able to offer this program for our local businesses,” ICCD board president Kristie Wetjen said. “First impressions are so important, and unfortunately facade and sign improvements are often difficult for small businesses to fund.”

Iowa County Community Development is a “boots on the ground” nonprofit agency connecting Iowa County businesses, organizations and individuals with the resources they need to start and grow their business in rural Iowa. ICCD connects with federal, state, regional and local organizations for funding opportunities. ICCD focuses on the needs rural communities face, including child care, housing and workforce issues.

According to the group’s mission statement, ICCD “promotes the betterment of Iowa County through quality of life initiatives, by partnering with county businesses and organizations to build economic growth and opportunities by engaging citizens in the development process.”
