An iconic Iowa City diner is making its comeback after a monthslong closure and change in leadership.

The Hamburg Inn No. 2 opens Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 a.m. The opening coincides with University of Iowa’s homecoming week, and the public is invited to celebrate the festivities with pieshakes, fried chicken and bottomless cups of coffee. Guests will also find old favorites on the menu.

In addition, guests are encouraged to cast their vote for the 2024 Presidential Election in The Hamburg Inn Coffee Bean Caucus, a time-honored tradition.

The next chapter of The Hamburg Inn’s nearly 90-year history will be overseen by Gold Cap Hospitality, led by local partners John Maske, Stephanie Breitbach, Nate Kaeding, Matt Swift, Benjamin Smart, Doug Goettsch, and Cory Kent. The team at Gold Cap Hospitality also owns and operates Iowa City staples, Pullman Bar & Diner and St. Burch Tavern.
