FEMA Disaster Recovery Center set to close Saturday

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center set up in Linn County to provide assistance in the wake of the Aug. 10 derecho will close Saturday at 6 p.m.

The disaster center is in the parking lot between Kernels Stadium and Kingston Stadium at 950 Rockford Road SW in Cedar Rapids. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Survivors in Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Linn, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story and Tama counties have until Oct. 19 to register for disaster assistance.

FEMA officials emphasized that survivors will still be able to receive assistance by phone Internet. Applicants may register online at DisasterAssistance.gov , download the FEMA Mobile App for smartphones or call 800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585) between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.

Documents may be submitted by mail to FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program, National Processing Service Center, P.O. Box 10055, Hyattsville, MD 20782-7055, or faxed to 800-827-8112. They may also be submitted via a FEMA online account, which can be set up by going to DisasterAssistance.gov, clicking  on “check status” and following the directions. CBJ
