The Washington Chamber of Commerce has named Farm & Home Mutual Insurance Association its 2024 Business of the Year. The award was given March 25 at The Greater Washington Business Partnership Annual Dinner.

“There have been many changes in the insurance industry due to the increasing number and severity of storms and advances in technology,” a press release said. “Farm & Home Mutual, while not the largest mutual in Iowa, has been consistently recognized and praised by Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance for its business practices, embrace of technology, and willingness to adapt to the changing insurance industry.”

The Chamber noted that, among many other things, Farm & Home Mutual safeguarded policyholder interests through improved underwriting practices. It leveraged cutting-edge technologies by pioneering paperless operations, digitizing policies and records, facilitating virtual inspections, and enabling online payments for policyholders’ convenience.

In addition, the company led the way in Iowa by using drones for property inspections, demonstrating adaptability to evolving market dynamics. Such proactive measures not only sustained, but bolstered, financial assets essential for ensuring comprehensive insurance coverage in times of loss.

Over the years, Farm & Home Mutual has bolstered the community through its support of various endeavors, including supporting the new facilities for YMCA of Washington County; sponsoring the Washington County Fair; donating towards the purchase and training of a K-9 unit for the Washington Police Department; donating to the Ainsworth Fire Department and the Firemen’s Golf event; and donating to Hospice, Paws & More, among others.

The company is the longest continuously-operating business in Washington and celebrates its 150th year of business this year.
