Donald Johnson

Don JohnsonAge: 36

Occupation: Attorney and Vice President – Shuttleworth & Ingersoll PLC

What is your greatest professional achievement: Finding a firm that is committed to providing high-quality legal work and to supporting significant involvement within the community.

Who are your mentors: Gary Streit (president, Shuttleworth & Ingersoll) and Bill Hochstetler (attorney and senior vice president, Shuttleworth & Ingersoll).

What is the best advice you ever received: It is never too late to make a good decision.

What is your biggest passion: My children are my passion. Each day is a new experience with them. I am hopeful that I can teach them to be respectful, responsible and to work hard.

What do you know now that you wish you had known earlier in your career: There are some situations where the legal remedy is not the answer. After practicing in the areas of estate planning and estate administration for a number of years, I have realized that although a legal remedy may be available, there are situations where all members of the family would be better served by sitting down and talking it through.

What would most people be surprised to learn about you: I teach high school classes on financial literacy. Through Junior Achievement, I have taught classes at the high school level for the past eight years. The classes are intended to help the students become financially responsible.  I tell the students, “You do not have to be a financial expert, but you do have to have enough knowledge to know when you need to ask questions and what questions to ask.”

What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace: Although technology in the workplace and busy family lives have changed what hard work and commitment look like, it is still present in our generation.
