CR to host national volleyball championships

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Cedar Rapids Tourism and Kirkwood Community College as hosts for the 2023 DII and DIII National Volleyball Championships and the 2024 DI, DII and DIII National Volleyball Championships.

Alliant Energy PowerHouse will serve as the tournament location for the 88 teams expected to participate in the championship games. It is anticipated the teams will stay an average of four days, which will provide a a multi-million-dollar economic impact for the Cedar Rapids community.

“The NJCAA looks forward to Cedar Rapids Tourism and Kirkwood Community College hosting the DII and DIII Volleyball Championships in 2023 and all three divisions in 2024,” said Liz Homrig, NJCAA director of championship operations, in a news release. “The Alliant Energy PowerHouse has served as a premier location for the association’s DII national tournaments over the past three seasons. Hosting joint championships in 2023 and 2024 will only enhance the first-class championship experience for student-athletes and attendees.”

“We are excited the NJCAA has chosen the Cedar Rapids community to host their upcoming National Championships in 2023 and 2024,” said Jay Fanta, director of sports tourism with the Cedar Rapids Tourism Office, in a news release. “We look forward to providing a great experience for the student athletes, coaches and fans in attendance in the coming years.”

Cedar Rapids hosted the NJCAA DII Championships for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The 2023 and 2024 championship games will be held:

  • 2023 NJCAA DIII Championship: Nov. 9-11, 2023
  • 2023 NJCAA DII Championship: Nov. 15-18, 2023
  • 2024 NJCAA DIII Championship: Nov. 14-16, 2024
  • 2024 NJCAA DI & DII Championship: Nov. 20-23, 2024
