Business, labor join forces to host Cedar Rapids mayoral forum

All mayoral candidates expected to attend

The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and Hawkeye Area Labor Council AFL-CIO will team up to host a forum for candidates running for mayor of Cedar Rapids.

The forum will be held Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Public Library’s Whipple Auditorium and is open to Economic Alliance members, their employees and Hawkeye Area Labor union members, as well as their retired employees.

Registration is required and open now at www.cedarrapids.org/calendar. Members will be encouraged to submit questions for the candidates at the time of registration. Those questions will be asked during the forum as time allows.

All publicly announced Cedar Rapids mayoral candidates have confirmed their attendance.

The relationship between the two organizations is longstanding, with local economic growth being a public policy priority for each group. The collaboration provides direct access for both memberships to learn more about all Cedar Rapids mayoral candidates and together, advocate for issues key to the business community, working people, their families, and our region.

In addition to the forum, the Economic Alliance will also publish a Voter Resource Guide in October to assist members in their decision-making process in this year’s local government elections. This resource allows members to view candidate answers to business-related questions, as well as other tools to help make voting decisions.

The Economic Alliance is a non-partisan entity and does not endorse or donate to political candidates, but encourages members to be informed on the issues and to vote for business-friendly candidates. Election Day is Nov. 2.
