Karyl Bohnsack has announced she plans to step down as executive officer of the Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association.

The resignation is effective Nov. 10, Ms. Bohnsack said in a post on her Facebook page.

Ms. Bohnsack has served as Greater Iowa City HBA president since May 2015.

Under Ms. Bohnsack’s leadership, the Iowa City Area Home Builders Association’s membership has increased by 36%  and the Remodelers Council has grown by 370%. She also helped reinstitute the HBA’s Student-Built House Program after a 10-year hiatus, leading to the completion of a remodeling project in Kalona in 2022. She led the addition of architecture, construction and engineering classes at Iowa City High School following more than a decade without a vocational technical class. She’s also chaired the HBA’s Women’s Council.

Her service also extends beyond HBA activities. She has served on the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition Affordable Homeownership Advocacy Committee, the Iowa City Area Business Partnership’s Business Council on Legislative Affairs and the Iowa City Downtown District’s Legislative Committee. She is a member of the Livable Community Housing Action Team and an Iowa City Area Business Partnerships ambassador.

Ms. Bohnsack was also named one of the Corridor Business Journal’s Women of Influence in 2022.

“Karyl doesn’t just sit on the boards, she gets things done,” HBA Vocational Training Council president and Sueppel’s Siding and Remodeling Owner G.T. Karr wrote in 2022 in recommending Ms. Bohnsack for the CBJ award. “She is positive, driven and motivates everyone around her to achieve more. Karyl doesn’t just do her job, she crushes it and has elevated our HBA to an entirely new level.”

The Greater Iowa City Area HBA is advertising for her position.
