At the former home of La Vecina, West Des Moines-based Blue Agave Mexican Restaurant is opening a location at Iowa River Landing.

A 10-year lease was approved by Coralville City Council during the council’s Jan. 10 meeting and again following a Feb. 14 public hearing. It will have two five-year lease renewal options.

The restaurant will be located a 211 E. Ninth St., Suite 135. It is unclear when the Coralville location will open.

According to the agreement, Blue Agave will “pay the sum of $19.50/square feet” for the 4,100 square feet in space. The tenant pays a share of taxes, maintenance and insurance.

Blue Agave has another location in West Des Moines. The menu at the West Des Moines location includes elote, cochinita tacos, camarones al ajillo, burritos and fried ice cream. A menu submitted to city council appears to be similar.

The news was first reported by The Gazette.

In North Liberty, El Azul Mexican Market and Andale Cantina Bar & Grill opened storefronts in January.
