Best Architectural Firm: Shive-Hattery

Already a member of the CBJ’s Best of Hall of Fame for its engineering prowess, Shive-Hattery makes its first appearance for its architectural work. The Cedar Rapids-based firm with seven offices across the Midwest has set itself apart with major investments in technology, which are “creating a whole design experience,” said Marketing Director Greg Kanz. Building information modeling, 3-D scanning, drones, 3-D printing and artificial intelligence provide a “technology-forward” approach, while the firm’s 122 years of experience give customers a seasoned and insightful partner.

Shive maintains a balanced mix of private and public clients, and has worked on such regional projects as Dupaco Community Credit Union in Marion, Red Cedar Lodge in Linn County and GEICO’s new offices next to the CBJ’s headquarters in North Liberty.

“Clients are taking us across the country,” Mr. Kanz said of the firm’s growth and reach. “This year we’ll design projects in San Francisco and New York.”
