Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa will host its fifth annual Impact Day on July 11, continuing its volunteer-based initiative to support local nonprofit organizations.

Founded by managing partner Kalvin Grabau-Keele, the event mobilizes employees to provide hands-on assistance to community groups, helping them complete labor-intensive projects. The initiative is aimed at reducing budget strain and advancing the missions of charitable organizations across the region.

“Our goal is to strengthen the communities where we live and work,” Mr. Grabau-Keele said in a release. “By supporting local organizations, we aim to make a lasting impact in Eastern Iowa.”

Volunteers from Northwestern Mutual will assist at five locations this year, including the Cedar Valley Humane Society, Delaware County Cattlemen’s Steer N’ Stein at the Delaware County Fair, Tapestry Farms in the Quad Cities, Dubuque County Veteran Services, and the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.

The annual day of service draws approximately 80 participants each year. Past projects have included landscaping, gardening, and preparing meals for veterans at sites such as Feed Iowa First, Veterans Freedom Center, and the Dubuque Arboretum.

In addition to volunteer efforts, Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa reports it has donated over $500,000 to local charities since 2021. The firm has also pledged an additional $500,000 to the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital by 2028 as part of its parent company’s national focus on combating childhood cancer.
