Iowa City-based Neumann Monson Architects has earned its third national Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), further cementing its reputation as a leader in sustainable design.

The firm was recognized June 5 at the AIA’s national conference in Boston for its work on the Stanley Center for Peace and Security headquarters in Muscatine.

“This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and design excellence,” said Tim Schroeder, president of Neumann Monson. “We are proud to contribute to a more resilient and equitable built environment.”

Presented annually, the AIA COTE Top Ten Awards honor 10 projects nationwide that demonstrate both design excellence and outstanding environmental performance across a range of criteria, including energy and water use, community engagement, and occupant well-being.

The Stanley Center for Peace and Security is a nonprofit organization working to catalyze global action that prevents the use of nuclear weapons, mitigates climate change, and elimination of mass violence and atrocities. Housed in a fully renovated former library, the building supports the center’s mission by exemplifying how adaptive reuse and regenerative design can contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable world.

This latest recognition places Neumann Monson among a select group of architecture firms with multiple COTE Top Ten honors. The firm previously received awards for the Market One building in Des Moines (2021) and the Iowa City Public Works Facility (2022).
