Through a new annual grant opportunity, arts organization Public Space One is offering a total of $60,000 to artists within 80 miles of Iowa City.
The program, dubbed Big Field Fund (BFF), will award up to 12 grants that promote innovative artist-led communal projects or artists in the beginning stages of a project. BFF is a Regional Regranting Program of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts administered by Public Space One, according to the BFF website.
The project grants will each award $5000-$8000 to support the public realization of connective, collaborative, and/or experimental artist-led projects, while the research and development grants will each award $1500-$3000 to support artists in the early stages of an ambitious project.
The first round of applications is due Aug. 1, and will involve a short form to determine eligibility for a project proposal submission in the second round. Applicants will be accepted or denied by a team of four jurors.
According to an Instagram post from BFF, artists eligible for a grant must be:
- At least 18 years old
- Not full-time students
- Individuals (or individuals representing an unincorporated artist collective)
- Actively creating work
- With Iowa-based projects that:
- Take place within 80 miles of Iowa City
- Are grounded in the visual arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, social practice, performance art, film/video, photography, textiles, ceramics, public art, etc.)
- Incorporate activities and formats including but not limited to: exhibitions, performances, installations, interventions, digital platforms, broadcasts, workshops, spectacles, screenings, and publications
- Take place largely in the year 2025
