The ICR Future Career and College Fair is slated to take place this year at the Kirkwood Hotel Conference Center, 7725 Kirkwood Blvd SW, in Cedar Rapids.

On March 24, from 1-3 p.m., high school students and their parents will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of career paths and educational avenues from a different variety of exhibitors, including representatives from business and industry, apprenticeships, military services, and colleges and universities from across the country.

“This fair serves as a pivotal moment for students and parents to start planning ahead,” said Brittania Morey, vice president of marketing and communications for ICAN, in a news release. “In today’s rapidly evolving world, it’s crucial for students to have a clear understanding of their options beyond high school. Whether they’re considering entering the workforce, pursuing further education, or exploring alternative paths, the ICR Future Career and College Fair provides the resources and guidance needed to navigate these critical decisions.”

Attendance is free, and attendees will have the chance to ask questions, gather information, and gain insights into the skills and qualifications they need to succeed in their chosen career paths.

Touting itself as “the largest spring fair of its kind in Iowa,” the ICR Future Career and College Fair hopes to drive home the importance of proactive planning and preparation during the high school years.

“By starting the exploration process early, students can better align their interests, skills, and goals with future career and educational opportunities, ultimately setting themselves up for long-term success,” the news release stated.

Prior to the fair, attendees are encouraged to make a list of questions for schools and to take pre printed address labels to stick on college information cards. An additional option is the College Fair Barcode, a pre-fair service that lets students register for a personal barcode to be scanned by colleges in lieu of completing information cards.

The ICR Future Career and College Fair is a collaborative effort among ICAN, Greater Iowa City, Inc., the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, Iowa Building Trades, Iowa Farm Bureau, and Kirkwood Community College. Dedicated to providing high school students and parents with the resources and guidance needed to explore future career and education and training options, the fair provides a comprehensive platform that empowers attendees to make informed decisions about their future endeavors.
