Third annual Shop Iowa Day returns Oct. 9

Around 750 businesses and 8,000 products will be represented that day

Shoppers wanting to get a head start on their holiday purchases while keeping dollars local should highlight Oct. 9 on their calendars.

That’s the date of the third annual Shop Iowa Day, a statewide e-commerce marketplace initiative of the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) that started in 2020 and celebrates and supports Iowa’s small businesses by highlighting their range of local products.

“Shop Iowa allows us to champion local businesses while making it easier than ever for consumers to discover and support them,” said Debi Durham, director of IEDA and Iowa Finance Authority. “Through this marketplace, businesses in all 99 counties have gained new opportunities, and the positive economic impact has touched all corners of the state.”

Approximately 750 businesses and 8,000 products will be represented that day, and a variety of promotions will be available to shoppers starting Oct. 8 at 6 p.m., including:

  • A chance to win a $500 Shop Iowa shopping spree or one of two pre-Shop Iowa Day giveaways through social media.
  • Limited-time discounts from small businesses statewide.
  • 30% off sitewide purchases using a coupon code available on Oct. 9.
  • A $5 Shop Iowa gift card for every $25 gift card purchased.
  • Free shipping offers by select businesses, plus local pick-up where available.

Shop Iowa email and text list subscribers will receive “early access deals,” and promotions will continue until 11:59 p.m. the day of.

“The platform offers a convenient way for Iowans and beyond to shop local, serving both businesses with an existing online presence and those new to e-commerce, with help and support from Member Marketplace, Inc., the Iowa-based small business team behind the platform’s management,” a release said.
