Honkamp, P.C., a leading Midwest CPA and business advisory group, is set to expand its footprint by acquiring a prominent CPA firm in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor. The Brems Group, LLP, comprising approximately 20 employees across its Cedar Rapids and Coralville, Iowa, offices, will merge with Honkamp effective Thursday, August 1.
Post-merger, the seasoned team, including key leaders Jim Brems, Brian Coller, and John Warren, will continue to serve their existing clientele from the two offices. Honkamp has maintained a robust presence in the Corridor, with its Hiawatha, Iowa office operational since the late 1990s.
The addition of the new Cedar Rapids and Coralville locations will bolster Honkamp’s capability to deliver premier CPA and business advisory services to a broader client base.

The Brems Group notes that its leaders have been assisting companies since the 1970s. According to Brems Group partner Brian Coller, the merger with Honkamp will enhance their ability to support local businesses.

Honkamp, headquartered in Dubuque, operates nine additional offices across Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin. This acquisition marks Honkamp’s fifth in the past three years.
In December 2021, the firm acquired Nigl Accounting LLP of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The following year, in November 2022, Honkamp added Vaassen, Pluemer CPAs, LLC of Platteville, Wisconsin, and the Cedar Falls, Iowa, office of Gosling & Co., P.C. Most recently, Schowalter & Jabouri, P.C. joined the firm in December 2023.
