Veridian Credit Union is celebrating Giving Tuesday with $35,000 in donations to six nonprofit organizations across Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota, including two groups with Corridor connections.
Recipient organizations were nominated by the public for the credit union’s Veridian Gives Back for Giving Tuesday campaign and drawn at random to receive the donations.
“We want the selection of our Giving Tuesday donation recipients to include input from our members and communities,” said Areli Solorio, Veridian public relations strategist, in a release. “We also hope it prompts a reminder about this important day and helps more of us think about what we can do individually to participate.”
One organization in each of the credit union’s five market areas is receiving $5,000. Recipients of Giving Tuesday donations in each area include:
- Cedar Falls/Waterloo – YWCA of Black Hawk County
- Cedar Rapids/Iowa City – Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP)
- Des Moines area – Urban Bicycle Food Ministry
- Omaha/Council Bluffs – ReConnect, Inc.
- Twin Cities area – Onward Eden Prairie
One additional organization from within Veridian’s full geographic field of membership was drawn to receive a $10,000 Giving Tuesday donation. That recipient is the Iowa Giving Crew, serving Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Iowa City and Waterloo.
Veridian Credit Union, founded in 1934 in Waterloo, is a financial cooperative owned by its 329,000 members. The credit union offers a full range of business and consumer financial services with more than 1,000 employees and 32 branches across Iowa, eastern Nebraska and the Twin Cities metro area.
