UnityPoint Health’s Daniel Joiner named 2024 diversity leader

Modern Healthcare, a bi-monthy business publication geared toward healthcare industry executives, named UnityPoint Health’s chief diversity and community impact officer, Daniel Joiner, a 2024 Diversity Leader.

The recognition highlights Mr. Joiner’s efforts to advance equity and inclusion within both his organization and the broader healthcare industry, and he is one of 35 healthcare executives nationwide to receive this honor.

According to a release, Mr. Joiner has been instrumental in several key initiatives at UnityPoint Health, including the creation of a cultural resource guide to enhance interactions between staff and patients from diverse backgrounds.

He has also played a pivotal role in aligning the organization’s affinity-based employee networks and establishing a partnership with a national bank to improve access to healthcare careers for underrepresented groups.

Additionally, his work has led to a 10% increase in the number of diverse suppliers contracted by UnityPoint Health.

This award from Modern Healthcare adds to Mr. Joiner’s growing list of accolades this year, including being named to Becker Healthcare’s “Black Healthcare Leaders to Know” and “Hospital and Health System Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officers to Know” lists.

Mr. Joiner, who has been with UnityPoint Health since 2015, was appointed as the organization’s first chief diversity officer in 2022.
