Two small businesses closing locations, one reopening after hiatus

Dash Coffee Roasters and Rare Bird Soap Shop have announced closures this week on social media, while Stillwater Coffee has announced its reopening and revealed a new look.

Dash Coffee Roasters

Dash Coffee Roasters announced on its Facebook page that it will be closing its Marion location, 630 10th St., on Dec. 24, 2023.

“One year ago we opened the doors to this sweet little coffee home. Today it is with a forlorn heart that I announce that we will be closing the doors to this space soon,” the post stated. “Thank you to each person who stopped in, drew a picture, enjoyed a coffee, got to know or staff, & worked to support us.”

The coffee shop’s Cedar Rapids location, 120 3rd Ave. SW, which opened in 2017, will remain open.

Rare Bird Soap Shop

Rare Bird Soap Shop announced on its Facebook page that it will be closing its physical shop location inside NewBo City Market, 1100 3rd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, on Dec. 31, 2023.

The shop has been at the market for 10 years, and will continue operating as an online business, as well as working with other local shops to stock its products.

“Due to an unfortunate circumstance that happened last spring and after much consideration, I will be closing the shop at Newbo City Market at the end of the year,” the post states. “While the shop will be closing Rare Bird will REMAIN in BUSINESS as I restructure the business to focus on wholesale and online sales. I will be working with a couple of small businesses to carry my products, one at Newbo and the other in the Czech Village. So please stay tuned for more information.”

Stillwater Coffee Co.

Following months of closure, Stillwater Coffee Co. has announced its reopening date, Dec. 20, on its Facebook page.

The coffee shop announced its temporary closure on social media on Oct. 11, with little explanation. On Oct. 30, Stillwater posted that it was hiring staff.

Known for its previously pink and flamboyant decor, the coffee shop revealed a new look along with its opening announcement.

“Our first few weeks will be under modified hours due to the holidays, but once 2024 hits we will back to regular hours,” the post states. “Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for drink and food menus, staff highlights, hours of operation and sneak peeks!”
