Steindler Orthopedics has announced the grand opening of its new clinic and ambulatory surgery center in North Liberty on March 24.
The event will mark Steindler’s 75th anniversary of serving the Cedar Rapids–Iowa City Corridor, Eastern Iowa, and the greater Midwest.
The new 100,000-square-foot facility in North Liberty features a clinic design with on-stage and off-stage elements to enhance patient flow and foster staff collaboration:
- Shorter wait times – By segregating patient corridors (on-stage) from staff corridors (off-stage), clinical teams can rapidly move between exam rooms, reducing patient wait times.
- Enhanced patient-caregiver interaction – Reduced travel distances for care providers create more opportunities for face-to-face time with patients.
- Minimized communal waiting – Patients will spend less time in crowded waiting rooms and enjoy a more private, streamlined visit.
- Seamless collaboration – Staff will enjoy a dedicated off-stage environment to coordinate and consult without creating noise or congestion in patient areas.
In addition to the clinic, the new Steindler location in North Liberty includes a six-operating-room orthopedic ambulatory surgery center (ASC), which offers patients a safe, comfortable, easily accessible, lower-cost outpatient option for many procedures that previously required hospital admission, providing:
- Lower costs – Procedures at ASCs typically cost about 40% less than hospital-based procedures.
- Efficiency – Same-day surgeries and simplified check-ins create a smoother, more convenient patient experience.
- Cutting-edge technology – Six oversized, modern operating rooms, equipped with robotics and the latest orthopedic technology, will ensure advanced surgical capabilities.
“The roots of orthopedics in Iowa trace back to Dr. Arthur Steindler and the tradition of excellence he established at the Steindler Orthopedic Clinic in 1950,” Steindler Orthopedics president and CEO said in a release. “By investing in a modern, patient-centered clinic design and a fully equipped ambulatory surgery center, Dr. Steindler’s vision for excellence in orthopedic care continues to serve, as we proudly uphold our legacy of delivering accessible, patient-focused, high-quality orthopedic care with high patient satisfaction at a lower cost. This commitment to our community reflects our dedication to providing the highest standard of orthopedic care.”
Steindler Orthopedic Clinic traces its heritage to Dr. Arthur Steindler (1878–1959), a pivotal figure in American orthopedics.
Dr. Steindler first arrived at the University of Iowa in 1912. In 1925, the College of Medicine established the Department of Orthopedics, appointing Dr. Steindler as its first chair. He held this position for over two decades, transforming it into a world-renowned center of clinical and academic excellence, where he pioneered biomechanics in treating musculoskeletal disorders. He authored over 130 papers and nine books before retiring from the university in 1949 to become Chief of Orthopedics at Mercy Hospital and establish the Steindler Orthopedic Clinic in 1950.
“Dr. Steindler’s pioneering spirit lives on in every service we provide and with each patient we treat,” Steindler Physician Board president Tom Ebinger said. “We are grateful to celebrate 75 years of service, and we look forward to many more as we continue his legacy in a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the orthopedic needs of our community.”
Steindler’s new campus is located in North Liberty, off Interstate 380 and Forevergreen Road, just north of the intersection of Interstate 80 and Interstate 380. It provides convenient access with ample parking for patients from Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and the wider Eastern Iowa region.
