Samantha Rogers

Senior Manager of Human Resources
The Skywalk Group
AGE: 29

What do you consider your biggest break so far?

When I moved to Cedar Rapids, I heard of the Skywalk Group as a human resource consulting firm. There wasn’t anything open, so I “friended” everyone there on LinkedIn and messaged each person, every month, until they had an opening. Asking the right person at the right time made me an official “Skywalker.”

What would most people be surprised to learn about you?

My biggest hobby/fascination is exposure to new cultures and traveling with my husband, family and/or friends. I grind each day in anticipation of our next trip to Africa, India, or who knows where else.

What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why?

Turnover rates with small, medium and large employers. In order to increase tenure and productivity, employers need to be investing in training and education, allowing employees to take ownership and be creative with their work, and educating the team on the total compensation package (culture, benefits, flexibility, etc.). When an employer is transparent and supportive, they are closer to maintaining that “employee for life” scenario, no matter the age of the employee.

What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50?

On my 50th birthday in 2040, I would like to be celebrating 23 happy years of marriage with my husband, Alexander Rogers. I would like to return the favor and celebrate the success of other young women and men who are making a splash in the community. It takes a village to empower and develop others.
